I lost my mom as a young adult. She passed suddenly, after complications from a skin disease and a medication that she used to help control it affected her body in a negative way. No one was able to help her the way she needed. All the correct tests and studies were performed, but yet, she couldn’t be saved. I have always felt something bigger was being missed.
Many years later, I am still affected by the loss in many ways. I have realized more and more that losing her has motivated me to make changes in my own practice and help people in a different way, a more holistic functional way, getting to the root cause of my clients’ problems. I do not believe in the “band-aid” approach to medicine, but getting to the true cause of the problem, even down to the cellular level, and addressing the issues one by one.
More recently, I went through perimenopause and ultimately menopause which was life-changing in so many ways. After going through it myself, I could relate to the lack of support, education and preparedness that I was hearing about from friends and patients. It helped drive me to where I am now, wanting to help specifically women in their 30s to 60s who are experiencing health symptoms that want to get to the root cause and optimize their health.

I am a certified functional medicine practitioner and Nurse Practitioner with 22 years of urologic experience. I obtained my background in health and medicine in a traditional way, by graduating first from Virginia Tech with degrees in biochemistry and chemistry and then after realizing I believed more in the nursing model, I shifted my career plan and obtained my nursing degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University respectively. After 10 years of practice, I went back to Johns Hopkins University to obtain my Doctorate in Nursing Practice focusing on urinary issues for women. I have practiced at the same urology practice for 22 years focusing my clinical practice mainly in women’s health (Urogynecology).
Throughout my nurse practitioner career, I have perfected my skills in women’s health, specifically pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain, incontinence, sexual medicine and more recently hormone optimization. I also have a passion to specifically help women who are in perimenopause and menopause with optimization of their wellness during this sometimes challenging time in their lives.
To become better equipped to help women with hormones, admist many different quick learning seminars and lectures, I have also completed the Institute of Integrative Nutrition Hormone Health course, Elite NP Women’s Health and HRT Clinic course, attended the A4M BHRT symposium 2023, and am currently studying for the Menopause Society Provider certification. I have also taken a rigorous course on intermittent fasting for women, am certified and have run educational courses to help women. I am always looking for new courses and ways to learn more!
I have traveled the world and had the opportunity to go on many medical mission trips. I’ve been to Brazil (down a boat in the Amazon — twice!), Belize, Guatemala, Peru and even helped with hurricane relief in Bay St. Louis in the U.S. I’ve seen the care in other countries and been forced to work with very limited resources. It changed me, and my perspective on medicine, health and wellness.

After many years of practice in traditional medicine, I found a desire to learn more in order to help women in a multitude of ways, to address all of their needs, and help get to the root cause of their problems.
Treating women with pelvic issues for so many years, I discovered a trend… they all had gut issues and or increased stress and anxiety. I realized that there was more to the story than just the pelvic floor/urologic issues I was treating. That’s when I discovered functional medicine, studied a bunch, read a ton, incorporated my learnings with current clients and received my certification in functional medicine from the School of Applied Functional Medicine.
